Proper access to education with all its means is essential to the inclusion, personal development and future economic independence of a child. Living at the verge of the 4th industrial revolution, knowledge on technology and its responsible handling is key to become an active member of society in an increasingly digitalized world. However, even in Germany as a developed country this access is not granted to everyone.
The initiative “Shaping Pathways – The Future Is Code.” aims to reach teenagers of disadvantaged and underrepresented groups who have very limited access to the digital world. Find the objectives of the initiative below.
The Global Shaper Frankfurt Hub, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, is proud to announce the successful launch of the first coding school targeted at underprivileged youth in the Rhine Main Area. The event was co-hosted simultaneously by the Global Shapers Moscow Hub and marked the start
of an international cooperation with the aim of empowering underprivileged teenagers in the local communities.

The event was co-hosted simultaneously by the Global Shapers Moscow Hub and marked the start of an international cooperation with the aim of empowering underprivileged teenagers in the local
communities.
During our inaugural event we had the opportunity to teach 16 teenagers of the AWO Darmstadt the basics of web design with the support of we{code}it and CodeDoor. Using a tailored program for
beginners, the teens learned how to create their own basic content and manipulate websites using the developer tools. This was an overall joyful day with games and fun in- and outside the workshop.
In order to nourish the skillset, the Global Shaper Frankfurt Hub in cooperation with IBM and PreiswertePC.de was able to donate five laptops to the AWO Darmstadt with the aim to equip the
adolescents for a successful future.
As a token of appreciation, twenty hoodies and cloth bags were
additionally handed to the youngsters. Furthermore, we established an ongoing mentorship program and a targeted follow-up structure that allows for a continuously rising learning curve of the workshop
participants.
With a diverse group of more than 10 different nationalities, the first edition of “Shaping Pathways - The Future Is Code” was a truly intercultural and eye-opening experience for the participants and
facilitators alike. We would like to thank all our partners Fujitsu, SAP, IBM, Silicon Valley Bank, PreiswertePC.de, we{code}it and CodeDoor for allowing a strong kick-off of the event series.
Given the tremendous success and positive feedback, we are happy to announce that we will be launching the second edition of “Shaping Pathways - The Future Is Code.” on July 13, 2019. We would be delighted to count on your support for the next session, and hope to continue the tradition of empowering the
marginalized youths with an indispensable skillset that just might change their future.
